About Whimsy: an FAQ

Hello! Because you're at this page, I can only assume that you are looking for more information on me. Either that, or you're here for clarification about something that I referred to in one of my posts. I think I'll just tell you about me in FAQ format.

How old are you?

I'm nineteen. My birthday's in April, and I'm an Aries.

What's your name?

Whimsy Starshine McWhimsysen IV

No, really. What's your name?

I don't just GIVE OUT my name over the internet. It makes me feel like I'm at least a LITTLE safe from stalkers. However, Whimsy fits me uncannily well as names go. If I had to change my name, I'd honestly probably pick this one. Sure, it brands me as a hippie, but I AM a hippie.

Where do you live?

In a house in the woods in a very small town in a pretty liberal state in New England.

Who's in your family?

Immediate family? Mum, Nay and Nessa (my sister), five cats, a cannibalistic fish and a turtle.

Were you adopted?

The first time I was asked this, I was SO CONFUSED. ^__^ No, I'm not. Mum was married to my dad, and they had Nessa and I. They got divorced, and my dad moved out when I was nine (going on ten years ago...WOW), and Mum got with Nay. They're now married, and I now live in a house of all women.

What's this "unschooling" of which you speak?

Unschooling is a lifestyle, more than anything. It's a philosophy that we, as people learn through our life experiences. The idea is that instead of spending years of your life in school trying preparing for "The Real World", that you should spend your time IN the real world.

What does that mean for YOU as an unschooler?

Well, I've never gone to school a day in my life, and I'm plenty happy about that. I was never told I had to Sit Down And Learn Things, and my house was and is run in a democratic way, instead of my parents saying "You do what I say, because I'm the parent".

Is that even legal?

It astounds me every time I'm asked this. ^___^ If I was breaking the law, firstly, do you think I'd tell you? And secondly, do you think I'd be flaunting it? In short, yes, it's legal. I live in a nicely liberal state.

So, what do you DO all day?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions I get EVER. I spend my time reading, writing, hanging out with friends, swimming, dance parties, keeping up around the house, running my business, making clothing, crafting, laughing, singing, doing theatre, playing guitar, writing music, editing video, skyping, amusing my family and friends, dancing, playing at being pirates...

Why didn't/don't you go to school?

I never wanted to, and Mum never made me. I had no desire to go to school, and STILL have no desire to go to school. One of my favorite quotes on this subject is "If you saw a monkey in the woods, would you ask it why it wasn't in the zoo?"

Wait, wait, waiiit. You run a BUSINESS?

Yes, I do. My mom, sister and I run a theatre business together. We teach people ages 6-21 about acting, projection, sterotyping, character development, diction and improv, among other things.

You're kinda weird.

That's not a question, but yes, I suppose I am. We're all weird in our own ways.

Are you weird because you didn't go to school?

xDDDD No.

Have a question? Ask me in a comment, and I'll add it to the list!
